[Fwd: Pennsylvania Horses]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi friends!

We are getting closer to the reality of the rescued Standardbreds coming
to Wisconsin. They have been in quarantine for all of three weeks now,
plus a few days. They have been health checked and waiting for a
reasonable ride to ASAP.

We networked out with every single horse rescue and adoption program in
PA, with no one able to step up and either foster the horses to alleviate
financial strain for ASAP. No one offered to take the horses into their
program, many stating that STB's were difficult to find homes for (we
don't have that problem out here!). One program offered to take the
horses for possible suitability as mounted police horses in Philadelphia,
but requested $2,000 to take the horses in to their program!

I guess it all boils down to the almighty dollar, but we had some really
great people step up to try to help. For example, one woman in our local
area has offered to pay the quarantine bill for the STB's. When you do
that math, each horse is being charged $11 a day to stay there - $33 a day
times twenty-some days.........ouch.

In addition to her, there is a very prestigious individual in the harness
racing industry who has contributed $500 towards transport. A dear friend
who has adopted Family Counselor and Taken By Surprise and helped with
rescuing Wawatassi and JD and countless others has generously donated
$200. We have had several other supporters who have contributed just
enough to get to the $1,000 mark for shipping.

Marie, a foster parent to Thunder, Comet, Fox Valley Terror, and Sugar,
offered to continue to Pennsylvania after a wedding in Michigan to pick up
the three boys next weekend. She was willing to go for the exact amount
we have had donated. Then, she received news from her doctor that she was
unable to make the trip as planned. I knew in my heart that God was going
to have to coordinate this because it seemed as though all doors have
continued to close.

More shippers, more quotes - most at $1,500-$3,000 for shipping (three
bids alone at $3,000!~!!!!). I just could not get discouraged - there has
been a kind of peace about this whole situation since it began, despite
the situation indicating it was hopeless.

Yesterday we got an email from a shipper asking where in PA the horses
are. I told her, and she responded by telling me that they were going to
the exact same quarantine facility to pick up another rescue for someone
else. I told her all we had.......well under most bids. She responded
and said they could do it for $1,000. MITACLES happen!!!!!

So, keep your fingers crossed, if all goes well.......the boys will be on
a trailer Wednesday to begin their new journey to ASAP. I know we have
one horse placed with Jennifer already, after quarantine is
completed....but we really need to know that there are other people out
there interested? Please email me!!!! Craig and everyone else involved
with ASAP, knowing our finances, will feel much better if we know that
these horses and all ASAP horses have a chance at placement soon after
they arrive.

Happy Sunday and I'll continue to update you!

GRANDSTAND! HELP!

Is there any Illinois or Wisconsin adopter who would consider showcasing
their horse at Balmoral Saturday night?

I can be there to man the tables, but my trailer is parked at the
fairgrounds because my daughter is showing her horse this weekend at the
fair. HELP! I do believe there is a stipend for anyone who puts a horse
in the Billy Barn.

Brick Walls

Well, today I have been researching more rescues out East and transportation.
Shipping from Honey Brook to a layover facility close by - quote $250

Cost of quarantine pasture in PA from one horse stable - $200 a month per
horse until reasonable shipping is found.

Still no other rescues or adoption programs who are offering sanctuary
until shipping occurs.

Shipping rate from Honey Brook to WI - $1,400

Still so far from finding a solution on our $850 budget.

Hang on - Sonny, Split Five Hundred, and Isn't He Classy - we're keepin
the faith!

SUPER NIGHT - BALMORAL PARK

Now accepting requests from any interested persons who would like to
attend Super Night at Balmoral Park on Saturday, September 17.

I am requesting a Sulky Suite for anyone who wants to attend - a great way
for all of us Standardbred enthusiasts to come together and enjoy the best
night of racing in Illinois!

Also, if you would like to take part in handing out information at either
of the two tables or having your horse showcased in the Billy Barn (it
pays $100 or $150) please let me know soon!

I am not sure what the answer is on the Sulky Suite package, but it
includes a LOT for 25 people that night!

PA Update

Three babies still in stalls waiting for a ride in PA - a ride, or a home!
Weathered the storms out there, which I heard were pretty bad. Glad they
weren't out on that feed lot for those.....now wonder what God has in
store for their future?

Hoping for donations today!

Donations for Kill Broker Horses - PA

Zero dollars raised today, but we want to let everyone know we are working
on a couple of different options for funding for transportation and/or a
couple of alternatives for placement (possibly within Pennsylvania!)

Thanks to everyone for the moral support.

We Said "Yes" When Other Groups Said "No"

Yes, we are all full.
Yes, we all have financial struggles (some groups way more than others).
Despite the financial situations of all horse adoption groups and rescues,
we stepped outside of the impossibility and walked in faith to get the
help necessary to save the three geldings at the PA kill broker lot. We
could not have done this without the help of Race Fund Inc. They were the
saving grace for the horses.

We have run into a few stumbling blocks right now, and the situation seems
a little impossible. Yet, we will continue to look into the hope of
miracles for the boys, so we can get them to the ASAP farm, or into the
loving arms of people waiting to welcome them.

We have had many angels step forward already - thank you for supporting
the mission of giving these guys a chance at a second (or third) life!
It is not ordinarily our mission to take horses off kill lots - this just
kind of fell into our laps. And we are thankful that it did. There's
always a reason for everything!

Feature Article for PA Horses and ASAP!

We contacted a journalist from the La Crosse newspaper and she will be out
tomorrow to do a feature article on the recent Pennsylvania case and also
to find out more about ASAP, its program and mission.

We are hoping this will result in generating funds needed for the horses,
and/or homes for them, as well as the many others waiting for adoption at
the ASAP farm!

Status on Horses

The geldings are tucked away at a layover facility in Pennsylvania,
waiting for coggins, interstate health certificates, and a vet check.
It is costing about $33 a day for them to be there until transport can be
arranged.

At this moment we do not have shipping arranged. We are working
diligently on it, but must find a way to afford the shipping rates. Currently we have had $550 donated, in total, towards these horses.

We will keep you informed as we know more - if any of you have any
suggestions on names of shippers who haul in response to emergency
situations (rescue, etc) we would love to hear from you.

THEY ARE SAVED! STANDARDBREDS ARE SPARED FROM SLAUGHTER IN PA!!

We are truly proud to announce to the world that, because of an anonymous
angel from out East (actually two angels), all horses have been spared
from slaughter! They were purchased last night for an amazing $1,490
which includes the cost to the layover farm where they will wait for
transport to either the ASAP farm or to interested persons.

I have heard through people who have had direct contact with the horses
that Isn't He Classy is extremely gentle, sweet, quiet, and could easily
be taken in by a family where any member of the family could enjoy him. He has had some rough treatment as a buggy horse, but is still sound.

Sonny and Split Five Hundred are also very well mannered horses and will
make someone great pets. They have a little more refinement to them,
especially in their faces and heads. Isn't He Classy has a little more
stereotypic Standardbred head. Still, he is sweet and we are looking
forward to getting to know each one of them.

It will cost ASAP money to ship these horses. Please consider giving even
$5 to help the cause. If each person reading this blog contributed $5 or
$10 we could have the shipping fee paid in no time! The $1,490 that was
donated is an increased amount because this person and this organization
(Race Fund Inc) wanted to include price of shipping to the layover
facility, coggins and interstate health certificates!

So now a lot of hard work begins - does anyone besides Jennifer want to
consider fostering or adopting one of these horses who have been spared
the worst possible fate?

Contact us please!

One Saved - Three Left!

I am hoping that due to the word getting out to all possible sources, the
mare has been spared and purchased.

We only have two hours left to save the other three geldings - please help!

Harness Racing's Own Charity - $$$$

Hello everyone!

Thanks to a key individual in the harness racing business, with a heart
for Standardbreds, we have raised $500 so far towards bail for the four
Standardbreds on the kill broker lot in PA.

We are waiting to hear what the kill broker will accept as a "package
deal" to bail all four out.

Our next challenge will be where they will go until they can be health
checked and have proper health certificates to come to WI or IL. Right
now we just have to concentrate on raising the rest of the bail.

Thank you for your continued suppport!

Buck - Quarter Horse - Barrels and Roping

Buck is a 22 year old Quarter horse buckskin gelding who is currently
available for adoption.

He has, naturally, some arthritis from his gaming and roping days, but has
been ridden trails this year. He is only partially sighted in one eye due
to an old injury. The other eye is clear and he sees well.

He requires senior feed and good hay in winter. Perfect horse for kids
just learning to ride, or a beginner adult that doesn't wish to compete.

Contact Sue at asapinc@mwt.net for more details.
