Great News
We would love for you to log on to a new web site, launched only today!
This web site was created to help the racing industry, while at the same
time supporting some very important adoption programs and rescues! We are proud to see our logo on the front page of the site, where players
may click to donate to any of the listed organizations. Just go to www.darkhorsebet.com
Check it out! Thanks so much to Judy H.for her donation of $50. We are almost out of hay, once again. We are so thankful to Kelly Wilde
and also other radio stations in our region who are providing free psa's
to encourage donations of hay to ASAP. The problem we have run into is
that people are willing to give, but no one has the means to transport. We have 200 small squares that were donated by a family near Tomah, but
for us it would be over two hours of driving, and two trips to haul them
back with our trailer. The other concern is that we have no way of knowing what the quality is of
the hay that is bein donated. I don't know if it is in the best interest
of ASAP horses to be eating hay from so many various sources. I guess we
need to promote donations so that we can continue to purchase hay from our
regular sources in our area. Thoughts? I will be attempting to send out
letters of inquiry to many foundations throughout the country. We realize
it is impractical and inconsiderate to continue to ask individuals to
support the horses throughout this long winter. We need to tap into
various sources of income to help them. Cobrador Kosmos suddenly is sporting a large bulge in his jaw. I put him
in his stall tonite and administered bute - it may be an absessed
tooth...so looks like the vet may need to be consulted. Sigh...otherwise
everyone else seems to be holding their own, despite no new adoptions. We are excited about our upcoming participation at Iowa Horse Fair and
Midwest Horse Fair. It is very sad that there may be no Standardbreds
represented at Illinois Horse Fair this year, mainly due to John Cisna's
passing. We are working on having at least one local person represent the
breed there (right, Michelle?). Here are some pictures that I snapped of the crushed lower shed, the
existing shed that we hope to put sides on to make a sufficient shelter in
place of it, and some of the horses.

Winter Horses
Hello!
I get up every morning and look out one of several windows at my home that look out over various horses. I looked out of my bathroom window yesterday morning, and these were the pictures I found. I looked out of the sunroom window briefly, to find Janimal and the donkey walking the fenceline by the house. Sometimes it's as if they will climb to any point where the sun first hits to warm their bodies. Most of the horses you see are Lakehills Texas, Cricket, Timesarechanging, Fargo, Magnus, and maybe Chief, Janimal and Tilly. The cat is my 16 year old long haired tabby, who has lived with cerebellar hyperplasia his whole life. He was resting on a blanket tonite and looked so sweet I just had to include him! More hay arrived - now to fund raise to pay for it! All is well - but we are going to get ready for -15 tomorrow night - it almost makes me cry just thinking about it. I have blankets on Remmie and Randy and they are both in stalls tonite. More blanketing to do tomorrow! Take care,
Sue

Winter Fun
I really have the winter blues right now. Just like you, seems as though every day just brings work, then sleep, then work, then short sleep, then family obligations, then more work. I want so badly to find a way to stay home full time! I am working hard on that through several venues right now, but in the meantime I get great updates such as Ray and Alice's sleigh rides and rides with their fantastic Standardbreds. We are very happy to report that Pistol Pete N is one of the four horses currently selected to return to Midwest Horse Fair, although we love all of Ray and Alice's horses! We cannot say enough about the financial and moral support that Ray and Alice bring to ASAP.
You can see that they are able to enjoy their horses even on some of the coldest days of the year. Yes, I am green with envy! Randy continues to gain weight on his senior pelleted feed. Due to Timesareachanging's aggression we are unable to place Randy back in with his herd of 20 years, which is sad. We are trying to figure out where else we may put Times until we can get Randy back in and acclimated, but no matter where Times goes he seems to pick a fight with at least one gelding. So for the time being Randy remains in the barn area, with occasional jaunts with Brandy and the llama, Cyd. Arne has been losing weight at his pasture down in the valley about ten minutes from our house. Despite unlimited hay and regular feed, I feel the need to bring him home to personally monitor him and make sure he keeps his weight up. Still, with no adoptions taking place, there is no room to bring Arne back. I really hope that soon people will be looking for great horses to foster or adopt! Special thanks to the following people for their donations over the holidays:
Evelyn Collins (Inside Straight)
Betsy F.
Joan Dixon (Star Duster)
Michelle M.S. - Kung Fu Guru
Trudy Mara (Jumbo Shrimp and others)
Ursula C. (fostering the six horses down in the valley including Arne, Bob Cook, Stylish Sharon, Strawberry, Steelin Apples, Little John
Nancy Wehrheim (Sadie)
Larry Rosenblum (Cobrador Kosmos)
Dawn Meyers (Finale's Fooler)
Ralph and Bunny Daehn (Egyptian Fashion and Copper Cadet)
Debbie Mensing (Janimal Bob Cook and Yagottalovethiskid)
Mary Ellen and Mike Miller (Tyler's Tanya)
Lou Warpinski and her dad (Silent Pursuit, Johanna's Flyin Star)
Ray and Alice H.(Goodnight Starship, Pistol Pete N, Sunny Forecast, Cam's Matte Finish, Mini Happi Times, Penguin Beware)
Carolyn Wiley (DT)
Craig and Jenny D.
Bob and Marietta Cunningham (Taser Gun) There will be more names soon!
Bless you all!!!

Molasses In January?
Thank you for asking about how my precious Randy is doing after his recent
episode of choke. I am pleased to say that, thanks to Dr. Terry Miller of
Cashton Vet Clinic, and our special loving care, Randy is doing just fine! We were proactive in treatment, expecting that, at worst, he would develop
pneumonia. Thank God, he didn't! He wasn't a bit fond of the bute, and
the penicillin was on standby in case he spiked a fever. The fighter that
he is, he recovered well. I still have him on pelleted sweet feed, but am
sure to wet it down completely now and put a little molasses on it to
boot! Now I know what molasses is like in January, and it isn't all that
slow! I mean, a little squeeze, and out it comes! The dogs loved licking
the sides of the bucket, and I have the pictures to show it. Friday was chilly, but our school to work client came out to brave the
winter weather anyway, all bundled up. The cats especially liked riding
on his shoulders! I have enclosed some pictures of what things look like outside right now,
and will soon send more "thank yous" for the donations we have received
most recently. Take care!

Thanks
We want to thank you for continued support as we head into the new year. Please say a prayer for my Randy tonite - he is going to be 30 soon, but I
have had to keep him separated due to Timesareachanging sudden aggression
towards him. I have been feeding him Senior pelleted feed and tonite for no reason he
choked. We are monitoring him but a few extra prayers won't hurt! Thanks to Lori and Mike Hahn for their donation of $300!!!!!!! Thanks to Mike and Mary Ellen Miller for their donation of $200!!!! Thanks to Betsy Fowler for her recent donation of $50!!!!
