An Angel Above - The Story of Broadway Pete

On March 2, 1997, a roan colt was born at Cottonwood Farms in Big Rock,
Illinois.

He was out of Broadway Express and Who's Counting (Ideal Society
bloodlines), and showed every promise of being a great race horse.

Race he did, but retired in 2002 after 44 starts, one win, a fastest time
of 1:56, and lifetime earnings of only about $6,500.

He was co-owned by Ed and his fiance', Linda Pederson, and Linda's sister
and her husband. Linda and her fiance' had a farm near Mineral Point. Linda had a love for Standardbreds that was very similar to mine, if not
identical. She was beautiful, young, and blonde, and worked as a
physician's assistant at UW Hospital in Madison. One of the biggest loves
of her life in addition to Broadway Pete and Chitown Legend was Amelia
Mouse. I have a framed picture of her hugging Amelia while smiling for
the camera, taken when Linda was very sick with cancer.

Linda knew her sister, Carol, loved animals, too. Linda went through a
very difficult time with her sister while also struggling with her own
cancer. Unfortunately, all the love in her heart for her horses and her
family could not save her, and Linda died tragically in 2004 at age 28 of
that dreaded disease.

Carol vowed to care for her horses if push came to shove. Amelia Mouse,
unfortunately, was lost in the shuffle after Linda died, and has never
been recovered. Carol would give anything to know where Amelia Mouse is -
would any of you out there have any idea? As for Broadway Pete, Linda is
watching him from above. Or, at least, that is my feeling.

With that said, Carol felt led to ask ASAP if they would be willing to
take Pete under their wing and let him become part of the ASAP family. Pete has had Parelli training, and now enjoys trail riding. Pete is going
to be placed along with Linda's very own Circle Y saddle, a prized
possession that ASAP will be honored to receive. There are times when it
feels as though the Lord orders things from His throne, and He loves each
of us so very much, He wants to honor the wishes and desires of those that
love Him. I believe Linda is watching over Pete from above!

Have a wonderful weekend!
