West Nile/Potomac/Hoof Trimming

Hey friends,

Even though we have recently received a grant, we are still in debt. We
were unable to receive any donations of Potomac or West Nile Virus vaccine
this year by soliciting wholesale companies. One veterinarian was unable
to donate vaccines that had expired as she has in the past. Potomac
vaccine and West Nile both run $18-$20 per dose, but there are discounts
for 10-dose vials.

We have ongoing bills for farrier work for Bob Cook, Arne, and Brandy,
Timesareachanging, Taser Gun, DT, and Stylish Sharon.

If you are able to contribute in any way it would be deeply appreciated.

Current bills:

Veterinarian: Cashton Vet Clinic - $1,000
Feed: Chaseburg Coop - approximately $800
Hay: After emergency hay grant is paid, we will still owe $1,000
Farrier: $20 per trim

Thank you for your continued support of ASAP.

Meet Stunner

http://youtu.be/yM4saYjJEck

Can you provide a home for this beautiful Amish buggy horse? Please contact ASAP: http://www.4thehorses.com/contactasap.htm

Please Help Stunner!

Stunner_and_bryan

This beautiful six year old gelding is in danger of sale if we don't find
him a home.
He originated out of Canada and found his way to an Amish farm this past
year. Amish owner is selling him due to ringbone, most likely from having
too long a toe and too low a heel. He has been vet checked - reports
available.

He is very tall, very quiet and sweet, and good possibility of being a
trails/pleasure horse with proper care. Please help us help him!

Original race name/pedigree available upon request.

Contact Sue at asapinc@mwt.net for more details. Horse is in southwest
Wisconsin.

In Memoriam

We want to recognize some monetary gifts received this week in memory of
two beloved horses owned by Eleanor and Andy Kellon.

Patrick and Jeezum Crow, two eight year old geldings, died suddenly from
an unidentified illness recently.

Cindy McGinley
Jaini Clougher
Susan Baumgardner - have all sent donations in the horses' memory.

Dr. Kellon is an equine vet specializing in nutrition and metabolism in
horses. Their web sites, for more information, are:

Application for Ownership

Getting lots of emails about this.
Check to make sure you have submitted an vet check from a veterinarian for
each year you have had your adopted horse.
We can verify this in our office.
This would be your first step.
If you have not submitted a vet check on a regular, yearly basis or kept
in touch with the ASAP office in regards to changes in placement with your
horse (changing boarding facilities, etc) you will not be eligible to
apply until you can demonstrate two consecutive years of doing so.

Hope this helps!
Hopefully the form will be available to view shortly on line.

Sue

Many Thanks Again and Again

Saturday found us very busy at ASAP.

Thanks to Lori and Mike for their donation of 20+ doses of rabies vaccine,
and 6 way vaccine!
Thanks to Ray and Alice for their $100 donation.
Thanks to Andrea for a $500 donation.
More thanks will be posted soon.

We still anxiously await the decision on our $3000 "emergency" hay grant.
We now owe $3,300 for hay purchased since last winter. We have been
pulling money out of personal savings to pay for hay at this point. Another $1,000 just came out of our savings to cover expenses. The great
thing is more horses are finding homes, and there are potentially another
3-4 horses who may be finding their families in the next two weeks.
That is a great trend!

Thank you to Betty from Globe University and hr friend who came on
Saturdya and assisted in vaccinated all ASAP horses. The also got a good
deworming! These volunteers are crucial to helping important things like
this get done. I had a great time getting to know them and they got a
kick out of me "cringing" every time I gave a vaccination! It did get
easier as we went along. There were no naughty patients, but then,
Standardbreds are known for their great tolerance of needles!

Riding Sunday for Mother's Day at Yellow River was the best present I
could have received. It was picture perfect.
Ray and Alice competed in their first driving competition of the year and
placed first and second on Sunday - wow!!!

Send me your news, and any ideas for a good fundraiser. More later. The
picture you see is of Penguin Beware, who belongs to Ray and Alice.

More forms hope to be coming for applying for ownership of your STB after
two years of successful, responsible adoption. Check to see if you have
submitted your vet reports on a regular basis and can be eligible to
apply.

Urgent Need - Buggy Horse

In an effort to serve the Amish once their horses are no longer useable
for their own purposes, we have the following horse in urgent need of
private sale vs. the next horse sale. It is known that this horse has
side bone and is no longer capable of going long distances at high speeds.
The farrier stated that the horse would be best suited as a riding horse
and/or pleasure horse. He has no visible signs of side bone at this time
and no xrays have been done to confirm it.

However, if we are unable to locate a buyer, we doubt that any other
person looking for a buggy horse would bid on this horse knowing the
reason why it is at sale. Please help if you can!

6 year old pure black Standardbred gelding - has been used as buggy horse
since age 3 - was purchased at Thorpe sale three years ago as a horse who
wasn't going fast enough at the track.
$400

Please contact me at 608-792-5126 or email
asapinc@mwt.et

Horse is located near Cashton, WI

Midwest Horse Fair

Finally! Pictures! We had not yet seen Santa Fe Freight and Lou and Elizabeth, so now you can see them all decked out, giving free carriage rides to the public in their beautiful cart!
In one picture, Lou gives a little "talk" to my teen-age son, and his friend Nate.
Cassidy and Rachel helped out a great deal in the Kid's Korral over the weekend. Their favorite activity was the "Pick A Duck" for the little ones. When the tub sprang a leak, the ducks were picked up from the picnic table! LOL
Rachel and Cassidy also were very busy helping pass out John Deere hats as well as other promotional materials. Hats off to the girls for their hard work. Zach and Nate were also present at the Kid's Korral, and we appreciate their help. They did also sit at the ASAP booth.

Couldn't resist putting up a picture of 16 year old rat terrier, Tina, who sported her "Snuggie" diaper while at the motel (just in case)......

Did I mention that Thursday as we were unloading the trailer to set up, my son's friend Nate laughed and pointed in surprise as a cat leaped out of the saddle compartment and darted under the trailer. Of course, it was "Stormy", our big tabby and white resident snoop. He had stowed away all the way to Madison, and because the weather was so miserable, he ended up staying at the motel with us for three nights as well. So.......here was Sue, sharing a double bed with daughter Rachel and her friend, two dogs, and a cat who tries to suck your clothing while you sleep! He really seemed to take a particular liking to Nate, though. Poor Nate! Luckily we had time to go to Walmart to stock up on kennel cab, litter pan, and cat food.....sigh.......

Did I also get to share with you that there was a failed attempt of an abduction in the parking lot of the motel Friday night? I just happened to be out in the dark by myself, getting ready to go and pick up the boys from the rodeo at the Alliant Energy Center. A van (not in good shape) with two guys pulled up and tried to talk me over to them, stating that they needed help immediately. I am usually the Good Samaritan and have never felt afraid traveling or speaking with people, but this dark parking lot, combined with no security cameras, and two very shady-looking guys, had me immediately alarmed. I told them to hold on for a moment, walked calmly to my truck, then locked all the doors and picked up my phone. I phoned the front desk, who immediately phoned the police. The van, seeing that I was not going to get back out, pulled quickly around the back of the lot. I was asked by the motel employees to try to get a plate. I was shaking, but pulled the truck around and saw them let a man out of the van who darted between two vehicles. I got the plate and called it in. The van quickly exited the lot to the left and took off. I was still trembling, my gut telling me it was a close call. The authorities ran the plates, and the plates were expired, and did not match the description of the vehicle. Wow......just confirmed to me that they were up to no good. I must have had my guardian angel out there that night - thank God.

Despite the weather, despite the cold, we had a great time and got to share our passion for Standardbreds with anyone who would listen. Our Saturday noon crowd was fantastic - wish we had gotten time slots like that every day, but who knows? There's always next year! Thank you to all and hope you enjoy the pictures!

Sue
