This is what I received from a volunteer who lives in New York and spends
all of her free time trying to save horses destined for kill. This is the
situation with the three Standardbreds ASAP wants to help, but without
anyone to step up to foster, adopt, or assist financially, these horses
cannot be saved....
"The situation is as follows: I. Bail funds Of the 3 standardbreds that ASAP has submitted form for, Pine Hill Willie
has been
bailed out and arrived in QT with Elaine Greybill Another one, Firstkin needs another $285 to complete bail (has $300 already), Amish gelding is lagging behind with funds - need to urgently intensify
fundraising.
Firstkin and Amish gelding have to get out this week, it is their last
week when
they are a available. II. Quarantine and health certificates for traveling. Next, once their bail is secured, they have to arrive in QT for at least a
couple of
weeks to make sure that they are healthy and stand to travel.
Are you going to be finishing off quarantine at your farm, or they need to
have a
full 30 days prior to coming to you? In order to come to WI, they will need to have valid health certificates,
that
cannot be issued right away. Here come the logistics of further actions on
the part
of ASAP: 1) quarantine - Elaine Greybill charges $10 per day and she is an
excellent
QT provider. I do hope that she has more room to take the other 2 horses
so that
they all will be in the same place. If not, there a a few other people
nearby, so
it is not the end of the world who do good QT jobs for $10-$15 a day. In
any case,
ASAP needs to be prepared to have funds for quarantine. III. Traveling to (Wisconsin) 2) If the horses are healthy, and stand to travel in 2 weeks, providing
that they
can finish QT with ASAP, the final step would be to start looking into
shipping
options. This will include getting estimates from shippers and raising
necessary
funds to transport the horses. You should kmow more than me about your
fundraising
procedures of course than me; i do not know whether you work with any
particular
shipper or not; i may know of a couple that go in that direction.
Also, are these horses coming to WI or to your satellite farm in MI/IL
area? Elaine
Greybill may be going into this direction. This is pretty much an outline of what needs to be done in order for the
horses to
arrive to ASAP - careful planning is needed. I hope that ASAP dealt with such
situations before and is prepared to take the challenge! Please let me
know what are
your thoughts here, and if i can be of any help besides helping to raise the
remaining bail, helping to arrange for QT and helping to research
transport options."
